SHAKEN OR STIRRED?

13.10.2020

With National Vodka Day just round the corner (I know, who comes up with these things), we give you three of the best ways to use it.

1. Lynnette Marrero’s Vesper

Recipe for Vesper cocktail James Bond

OK, we’re on a mission to prove vodka’s versatility, but we couldn’t resist including one cocktail. Eschewing the Martinis, Moscow Mules and White Russians we’ve opted for James Bond’s favourite - The Vesper. Here the vodka acts as a bridge between the botanical components of gin and the slightly bitter, herbaceous character of Cocchi Americano.

This recipe comes from bartending legend Lynnette Marrero.

Ingredients

22.5ml (.75 oz) vodka

60ml (2 oz.) London Dry Gin

22.5ml (.75 oz) Cocchi Americano

1 dash orange bitters

Lemon peel, for garnish

Method

- Combine all ingredients except for the lemon peel in a mixing glass. 2. Add 4 to 5 ice cubes, and stir for about 30 seconds.

- Strain into a chilled coupe glass.

- Garnish with a manicured lemon twist.

2. Gordon Ramsay's grilled lobster with tomato and vodka linguini

Gordon Ramsay bloody mary lobster linguine

Love him or loathe him, Chef Ramsay knows a thing or two about lobsters. After all, his signature lobster ravioli has been on the menu at Royal Hospital Road for over 12 years. This linguine dish might be much simpler, but it’s no less appealing. Be sure to go long on the chilli. Click here.

3. Rachel Roddy's sgroppino

Sgroppinos recipe

Think of sgroppinos as a kind of boozy, sophisticated, Venetian take on the ice cream float. This recipe from Rachel Roddy’s is a classic based on lemon sorbet; but we’ve tried it with a bunch of other flavours and it works just as well. Click here.
